Tom,
I am looking at buying that exact machine. I am going over Saturday
morning to run some tests with DeskNC using Anaheim Uipolar drivers.
The potential seller has given me all the user manuals (5 of them) and
I have been reading up.
Those steppers are just normal 8 wire hybrids, they just have a giant
heat exchanger glued to the outside.
I was over there tonight and it will be very easy to tap into x and y
by simply removing the back motor cover plates and hooking up my
drives.
I plan on running a few test programs using DeskNC and a 486 laptop.
I will let you know the results.
It should be noted that the Series 1 rigid head has possibly the
beefiest Z setup I have ever seen. The Z leadscrew is about 1-1/2"
diameter!!
I think this machine is perfect for a retrofit. I plan on starting
with the drives I have and converting to the new Geckos when they are
available.
