I purchased a Galil DMC-1000 thinking that anything so smart could make up
for my stupidity. It turned out to be so darn smart that it refused to see
my point of view. I spent two years trying to write a conversion program
between Dr Tal's high level programming language and our "outdated" RS-274.
What a pain! The board is still in the box.

Apparently I am not the only incapable programmer as I have seen no less
than half a dozen similar attempts with the DMC-1000 fizzle. Even Galil's
own G-code interpreter was garbage (one of their engineers told me so). It
can be done, but not by bonehead programmers such as myself.

I guess what I am trying to say is that we must be careful to ensure that
any proposed smart box also be friendly. More brains does not necessarily
mean easier to work with.
