I can't explain the why of the pricing other than to guess that it has to do
with production quantities.
I am using the 5/8" shaft on my Shoptask and on another project. The nuts
have no preload as they are single nuts, but if you buy 2 per axis you can
easily make your own preloaded nuts. The screws are actually Thompson
Saginaw and with a single nut will have .005 - .009" or so of backlash.
