Well, in RF, there is a real difference in transformer designs, and
for some situations, toroids are ideal. Pot cores and ferite sticks
are better in other cases. But for power transformers, the only
real advantage is generally in the area of reduced magnetic
leakage. And the only place that really becomes important is
sensitive measuring instruments and audio equipment.

But, if you have large power toroids available, there is no reason
at all not to use them.
