This is basically what I have in mind/do.

If I feel the "Subject" covers the point I am replying to, I leave it as
is... if not I will amend it to be more accurate/specific with a tie to the
old subject. Often a specific point in a general discussion will become a
subject of its own when that point holds enough interest for the readers.

Yes, I see and understand your point here, I feel the same way myself... I
have always gone be the saying "A wise man does not have to be an old man,
he just has to learn by others mistake, and not necessarily his own"... lets
face it, a group of us could uncover (make) more mistakes in a given time
than one person alone... I guess I am a little more reserved than some on
this (and many other) list... I look, listen, and make comment as I feel
appropriate or qualified to do so, but (especially in a public forum
containing people of greater knowledge than I) I tend to err towards the old
saying of "better to say nothing and appear an idiot, than to open your
mouth and remove all doubt"... I to have posted responses that mirror others
comments... this is good in the fact it reinforces the point being made, but
at some stage it becomes "flogging a dead horse" and this is just a waist of
time/bandwidth. I think for the consensus gathering sort of question a poll
is appropriate... although it still uses bandwidth, it compiles the results
saving each person that is interested having to find & tally the results
themselves. It also keeps a lot out of the general mailings. E-groups
provides the tools, its up to use to use them, or we lay in the bed we make.

Thanks for your comments Ballendo, I appreciate and respect your
perspective. Maybe I will jump in a little quicker in future?
