It depends on the surface area exposed to the liquid and how warm
you keep the liquid. I broke off a 2-56 tap recently in a piece
of brass and it took a week, but I wasn't warming it up much. To
salvage something, it really doesn't matter as the solution will
not touch the aluminum or brass, only the steel. If you come
back a couple weeks later it'll be done. If you're in a hurry
then you will have to keep it warm until it's gone and that may
take a day or two.
