I have just connected Dan's breakout board to my 5A stepper drivers and
initially had no movement from my motors as well. First of all the board
needs the 5v power connected for some parallel ports to pull up the signal
through the resistor networks. Secondly, my problem was that I am using EMC
as a controller and the step and direction are reversed as to how the board
is labeled. I had wired the board to the controllers using the label and not
following it back to the EMC pinouts. After switching the step and dir
around all is well.

Dan provided my with excellent support during construction of the
controllers with e-mail reply's and even went as far as shipping one of the
completed controllers back to him for testing. While I agree the
documentation could be improved, Dan's support is top notch.
