Now you've struck a nerve.
When I worked at a BIG corporation. I called McMaster and got a catalog.
#103 to be exact. I never ordered anything from them while I worked there. I
took my catalog with me when I left for self employment. I have ordered
thousands of dollars worth of products from McMaster over the years. I've
NEVER received a new catalog. I've repeatedly asked for a new one but it
never comes. I see others that never order anything from them ( by their own
admission ) with new catalogs, even multiple copies of the same catalog! But
I as a PAYING customer can't get one.
McMaster must have it's head up it's proverbial rear end in regards to it's
silly catalogs. The simple solution is to charge for the catalog to people
other than your 'select list' instead of alienating potential customers. I
don't mind paying for it. I know it costs a lot to print. But I also know
the profit they've made from me each year would more than pay for 10
catalogs.
But telling McMaster this falls on deaf ears. The person or persons
responsible for McMaster's catalog policy should be fired. It's corporate
stupidity at it's finest. But maybe McMaster doesn't want my business?
That's certainly how they are acting.
I called up MSC, asked for a catalog and got one within days. Now if MSC has
what I need, even if it costs more than from McMaster, I will order it from
MSC. MSC evidently wants my business. I'll only order from McMaster if I
can't find it elsewhere.
I also know their catalog is online. I've used it several times. But a paper
catalog has no equal online for doing comparisons or finding what you need
when designing something. Their catalog online is very inferior to the paper
version. I do however much prefer to order online.
Rant mode off.
