I may be way off base but that epicenter was 52 km deep....ie if the wave radiates...in a spherical fashion...then where you are
would give a 45 component...or steeper....ie. a lot of up-down movement rather than horizontal. This may put more members in
structures in compression which they probably survive better.....
This is just thinkin....could be all wet.

I plot the UW/USGS position at 47.2N 122.7W as Balch Passage between Anterson Is. and McNeil. Is. actually between McNeil and Eagle
Is.
Note that the position is given to 1 decimal place which may imply that the uncertainty is about a tenth of a degree which leaves a
lot of room for one claiming they were very close. ;-)
