Carl,

The RF-45 is set up as a small bed mill. It has the whole head mounted on a
dovetail way in the Z axis. By attaching your leadscrew to the dovetail slide
of Z, you can keep the quill completely manual to do drilling or adjusting
tool offsets. Best of both worlds in my opinion as the Z slide is very long.
I think you should get more than 6 or 8 inches of travel. More than most
typical quills. The quality of the castings has been much better than the old
round column mill drill I used to use. Get a 3 phase motor along with a VFD
and it would be a really nice machine.
