hey guys,
while figuering out how to setup my mill to have on/off control from
CNCPro I accidentally had L1 touch L2 (AC line) on the speed control.
ZAP! This letter is to let others know about the wiring of the motor
and general speed control case they are interested.
After much investigation I found the thermal protection INSIDE the
motor had burned out. Its a little copper looking thing about 10mm
long and 5 mm wide. The motor is like any normal DC motor with
brushes. I did find that the front bearing does not come out of the
holder and the rear bearing does not come off the shaft. So if you
need to open the motor do not pull it apart but work the brushes back
then pull apart. The small philips screw that is on the back of the
motor is the ground (green). The orange wire is one side of the
thermal protection (circuit breaker) and the white is the other side.
The red wire is the + for the motor, the black -. Again, the extra
three wires are ground (green) and thermal protection (orange and
white).
The speed control. You can find it at:
http://www.kbelectronics.com/
who make it for sherline. Go to "Instruction Manuel" then to "Model
KBIC" (the model number we use is KBLC-240DS) and it will tell you
the layout of the speed control, how to set it up and other misc
things about it. It talks about setting up aux. on/off also! Will
have to look into that. I have written to Craig about getting a
replacement thermal protection thing, its marked "75M 4." While
waiting, anyone know about this or where to get one. If worse come to
worse I will just bypass it.
hope this helps anyone interested in the wiring layout.
