Peter,
This really shouldn't be a problem. The spindle itself will run true.
There is/was an article about a spindle lock for the Sherline
headstock/spindle in either HSM (Home Shop Machinist) or PIM
(Projects In Metal) which is now called Machinists Workshop, all by
village press.
It seemed kinda unwieldy to me, but looks like it will work well.
I'd just use a pine wedge GENTLY pushed between the spindle pulley
and headstock body. You can buy "shims" at Home Depot...

dremel mount you asked me about privately? Same principle, different
