There is a test program that allows you to see the parallel port bits.
There are shareware programs that do this, too (for DOS, windows, etc.)

If you flip the Estop sense polarity, and it doesn't work, override the
limits (there's a screen button for this). That should get you out of
E-stop, then you can figure out which bit is holding it back later.
