These have a ring that you grab momentarily, and a ratchet pawl advances the
diameter leadscrew to cut the next boring pass or diameter of the facing
cut. This way you don't have to stop the spindle to turn the screw.

With CNC, it is less of a big deal, as the facing can be done with an arc,
and the rough boring can be done 100 x faster with an arc, and the final
boring can be done in one pass, often without resetting the boring head
once it is set to the desired diameter.

I have no need for it now.
