Bill:
I worked with some Superior steppers with Unipolar drives twenty some years
ago. We used a simple multivibrator gated into the CW and CCW inputs of the
controller board to drive them. No acceleration or deceleration. No problems
either. The issue is wether or not the motor can supply the required torque
"instantaneously." If it can, the motor will turn reliably. If it cannot,
the motor will either lose steps or stall.

missing for someone that wants to test or drive a stepper but is not set up
with a computer program to feed the signals.
