We chose the AN2131 based on development tools and our comfort
level with the 8051 family of microcontrollers. Also, we already
had the C compiler and other software tools. I am not familiar
with NetChip, but have looked at ST, Microchip and a few others.

The Windows application is being done by one of the other guys
that is getting a demo board. We will be concentrating primarily
on the USB board and its API interface. The API will be discussed
in the group and will be a published document. Time permitting,
we will look into EMC to see if interface is best done at the
final stage of motor control or nearer the motion planning.

DOS is not a reasonable avenue for USB work, but Linux and
Macintosh both support USB.
