IMO that's not the best advice to give a beginner!

You probably (my guess) bought all those machines over a number of years and
never gave much thought to purchasing machines that would use interchageable
tooling. Perhaps you were unconcerned with "trivia" such as this...maybe
due to an unlimited pocket book?

Most beginners/hobbyists have limited budgets. I'd think the individual who
asked the original question would prefer advise which would lead him to at
least being able to make a choice for his needs as a beginner.

In the same vein as your advise, you might just as well have suggested the
person purchase a machine that used NMT#40 or some such tooling along with
an air operated quick change system. That way he'd have to buy a number of
more expensive tool holders...and a large air compressor sytem if he didn't
have one.

If the person knows nothing about tool holders, I'd suggest he visit his
local high school or college machine shop and talk to some of the
instructors. If neither were available in his area, then he could try
visiting some local machine shops. After he learns about the various types
of tool holders and associated costs, he'd have a much better idea of what
type of machine and toooling to buy to suit HIS needs.
