I would suggest that companies today are using lawyers as paid bullies. We
get threat letters occasionally, and all of them are bluff. Examples:

1. You are infringing on our client's patents.
2. You are divulging corporate secrets you were privy to as an employee of
our client.
3. You are communicating slanderous statements regarding our client.
4. You have acted in breach of the non-competition contract you signed
while in our client's employ.
Yada yada yada ......

Know your facts and stick to them. But if you back away from threats you
may not be successful in today's business climate and you will get burned by
companies selling shoddy products.

We had a competitor threaten us for patent violations. Our product was
substantially different but we decided to go to Washington and do a patent
study just for good measure. We found the competitor's patent so poorly
written that we could have made an identical copy without infringement. I
notified them of our plan to do so (and sell it for half the price) if they
didn't stop whining. They left us alone.

Last year I had an insurance company run me around for six months on a
refund. "The check will go out this week, Mr Harrison." "Our accounts
payable manager is out with the flu this week, Mr Harrison." More yada yada
.... I sent them a short memo stating my intention of putting the whole
episode on a webpage and linking it to theirs. A check came on Fedex at
daylight next morning.

Sometimes you just have to come down to their level.

This list is a valuable tool for the exchange of CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO related
information. Knowing the reputation of a particular vendor or manufacturer
is part of the process.
