coolant new

Hi everyone

I've been silently lurking on the list for a few days; just bought a lathe
(an oldie) for personal use and occasional machining of parts for our
Laundromat business (hope to save time ordering and waiting for them
sometimes).

Anyway, my experience dates back to metal shop in high school (late'50's)
and I've forgotten a WHOLE LOT!! I have only used a lathe on maybe a half
dozen isolated occasions since then but really enjoy any type of metal work.

I'm looking at a mill; apparently coolant is used much more with a mill than
a lathe. I remember we used "cutting oil" (I guess this is coolant?) on our
lathe projects in school sometimes but don't recall when.

Any help you can give me as to what to use and when it's needed is deeply
appreciated. Also, can anyone recommend a source? Here in Waco we only
have a couple of industrial suppliers (expensive, no competition) and Harbor
Freight. I haven't checked with any of them yet as I really don't know what
I need.

I'll be in Dallas in a couple of weeks so a source there would be great
also.
