Jon, you bring up a really interesting point. I saw no signs of a battery backup. There is a truly bizaare cassete (i.e.
non-standard, maybe 8 track) in the back. I will tell my friend to ask the service rep about this.
However, looking at the "Tree Journeyman Control System Operating Instructions" manual, it doesn't refer to loading any kind of
executive program. The "initial startup of machine, or startup after electrical shutdown" section has the machine doing different
things than ours does at step #1. No reference to having a tape in the machine.
But we'll ask.
