Bill -
It depends which version of VectorCAD you are thinking of buying. The $15.00
special that Fred's offering does not generate the G-Codes necessary to run
a machine. For that capability, you'll have to spend about $350 to get their
"CAM" version. However, you can go to Yeager's board and get ACE converter,
which converts DXF files into G-Code and costs nothing.
I purchased the $15.00 version and am playing with it now. It has a
different feel than the AutoCAD compatable stuff that I'm used to working
with. I haven't used it anyways long enough an opinion on it one way or the
other. One thing - if you buy it, prepare to print the 368 page manual out.
You don't learn a program like that by trying to use PDF format
documentation while running the program (at least, I don't)

Hi guys
Before I get started, I would like to say that I know very little about CNC,
G codes, CadCam, etc. I have purchased a 3-Axis 2AChopper Driver PCB kit
from Camtronics
along with some Stepper Motors in the hopes to modify my Mill to CNC.
I would like to put a question to the group on the use of Vector CadCam
program. What is this program like? Can I use it to
draw up a part, generate the codes to control my Mill? I have a fair
amount of experience using a Cad program. (Design Cad Windows Version) Any
advise on this
program would be greatly appreciated to help me decide if this is what I
need.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Bill Blackburn
