This is most likely a software issue. When the step rates for the two axes
are very close, but not exactly the same, software driven step timing
may have to take some software shortcuts that lead to more jagged
pulse to pulse variations. I can understand the problems encountered,
and that's why I recommend hardware step pulse generation.
