Tom,
Not a "dumb" question at all! Simple answer is YES, they do need to
be "updated" during the life of the system.
Longer answer is: There are a lot of different types of "servo"
systems, from "traditional" PID to the newer step/servos. Different
systems will have different tuning requirements. As processing power
comes down in price (and is available on "chip") many mfrs. are
choosing to incorporate tuning routines into their servo amps/systems.
