Tim,

In helping Tom set up his motors with G340s, I noticed a problem with
the encoders. It seems the US Digital encoder does not have any power
supply bypass capacitors. This caused random "jumping" and
positioning errors.

The cure was to place a .1 uF multilayer ceramic capacitor across the
encoder's +5VDC and GND lines, at the encoder itself. Problem
disappeared entirely!
