My experience has been similar to the others....... A few years ago I bought
a complete package, Software and a Drive Rack. The software did not meet my
expectations but that was largely due to the fact that it did not have
continuous contouring capability, and with the advent of Windows Controllers
why have DOS. I returned the software and kept the DriveRack.
The DriveRack with DM4050's is still in use under FlashCut control but I will
say it seems the Drivers act "touchy" to input signals. If things are not set
just so, they lose steps. It isn't FlashCut because I have used that control
on many other drives without problem.
I also have to "warm the drives up" from cold before they will hold position
by running them in the air for a while. Once warm they seem to work fine. I
had one fail under warranty. They repaired it and sent it back.
I also have some of MK's DM3535's running under FlashCut control on a Plasma
machine. These seem less touchy and work fine. I only bought their drives and
a power supply for this project (no cabinet).
I purchased MicroK's components before Gecko drives existed. They were the
least expensive option at the time. A rather large factor when I purchased my
DriveRack was also the actual Cabinets finesse. It was one of the few
companies that seemed to care what the Drive Box should look like. It has a
Big Fan with filter, Sealed up quite well for keeping chips out, room for
additional components inside, and all of the wires connected in the Back !
As an example, I have had a Ah-Ha cabinet and always hated all the holes in
it for dirt to enter much less the fact than the connections to the cabinet
came out all over the place ! The Drivers were nice though !
Now days my goal is a nice NEMA cabinet with a DOOR for easy access (sliding
that rackmount in and out has gotten OLD), Gecko Drives and FlashCut........
Hopefully with their new version due out Soon !
