Peter,
The traditional Nema 4 Cabinet is an all Steel Box with a continuously hinged
opening door. Available in a wide variety of sizes, the cabinets opening
usually has a rolled lip and gasket to keep liquids and dust out of it. They
have different types of Latches, my favorite being a simple flush Straight
Slot which opens well when I happen to have a quarter in my pocket. Doing a
search in McMasters website will reveal some pictures.
New, they are expensive. I purchased as many as I could fit in my car from a
Surplus place some time ago. They were brand new and only $15. I have also
collected many from factory buildings that are being tore down and scrapyards
that occassionally receive automated machinery.
Mounted on the side of a machine, you can easily access any amplifier driver
to make dip switch settings. This gets real handy when you try out a lot of
control software !
Just the other day another cabinet jumped out in front of me. We had a
Battery Backup go south at the shop last week. It was sitting on the bench
for a few days when I realized it would be an attractive cabinet to mount the
power supply and drivers for a small machine. It even has most of the D-Sub
jacks I need in the back already !
