Al,
This is the trick (besides avoiding making splines in the first
place ;-) . Put the object on the screen and snap a line to it anyplace
and draw a short line. This is just a marker to show where you started.
Now, with line or polyline (best, as you can go back and make adjustments
easily later) start at the marker and snap the line to the object every
so much distance as you move along the existing line. It helps to zoom
into the line to get a resonable number of handles as these become your
coordinates later. Straight line segments can be just hit at each end.
Very curvy objects frequently can be duplicated by snapping to all
spline handles and intermediate midpoints. Add more if necessary.
When all is right, delete the spline, explode the polyline and convert
to dxf then g-code.
