Alan,
Yes, I plan to sell the kit. And, this one will eliminate the need for
expensive flex couplers, at the cost of perhaps once in a while having
to take the thrust plates apart for cleaning/lubrication. (bearings will
be shielded, but not sealed)
I've wanted to use ball thrust bearings for some time, but got hung up
thinking I needed a needle bearing to radially locate the stub shaft
that mounts in the bearings. Realized a couple weeks ago, while
discussing my old design with a fellow that bought a set, that if I
coupled rigidly to the motor shaft, the motor's bearings would provide
the radial location. Radial loads would be negligible.
Want to use 2.5 x 1.5 rect. alum tubing, and this requires packing
things together pretty close.
This new design eliminates pretty much all the real precision machining,
thus lowering costs. Only one dia and one bore will be important.
