Wire Rope v Timing Belt, was DIY Router Design questions ?

Just wondering if there's much if any differences between using a
wire rope and a timing belt for controling a router's movement ?
If I understand the description and photos ( thanks for posting the
photos bye the way ), Art seems to be using a wire rope for the Y
axis and a timing belt for X.
