Hi Rab:

I myself use two router heads on my system. I use one for wax work,
(very quiet) and one for wood.
To make the gantry syncronous, I would suggest designing the table so that
an axel goes underneath the table to the other side of the gantry with a
rack/pinion gear on each side.. This would only need one motor
and might be cheaper to produce. I'm thinking of building my third system
and have been looking at the same type questions. My present Gantry wieghs
in at about 200lbs and one motor drives it quite well, but wire ropes are
needed to deskew it under some conditions, I think I like the tables with
the dual racks better, let me know what you find is best.
