Gee, I just looked at their web site, and can't find any mention of the
44xx series of parts at all. I wonder if they sold this product line to
another company.

No, the BLDC motor products for 12 V disk-drive motors are not anything
like the AC motor control chips. the BLDC chips generally require
position sensors on the motor, and just drive the full DC bus to the
motor as square waves. The ML4423 produced PWM synthesized
sine waves and adjusted pulse width to keep the actual output value
in servo with the synthesized signal.

It looks like ML is reducing their once-broad product line to a very
narrow one.
