If the drive is smaller than the original it will fit. The 12.7mm is
unlikely to fit in a notebook that had a 9.5mm drive. You may or may not
have to shim it up to keep it from rattling around. Depends on the carrier,
if any.

Other than physical considerations, you may run into a problem with drives
larger than 8gb in an older machine because they bios cannot see the larger
drive parameters.
