Hey the emc simulation ain't all bad. I rewarded myself when I got that
far. The sim means that all of the non-real-time code compiled properly
and when you enter the ./sim.run the many parts of the system can find each
other and work with your install of linux and of x-windows.

I'm guessing here, but from the description of your error message, I think
that you have correctly defined the shared memory stuff in lilo.conf.

The next thing to do is test the rt stuff and see if it works. There is a
handy little program included with rt. It should be in the
/usr/src/rtl/examples/frank directory. If you've got it, change directory
there and type in: make; make test[enter] (the readme describes what the
test does)

You should get some compiler messages and explanations and a couple of
-press any key or [enter]- requests. When the test is done you should see
a bunch of Frank's and Zappa's spit out by the three real time tasks that
are started by the test.

If you do get the Frank Zappa message you have a good rtlinux kernel. If
it's good, the next step is to look in the emc.ini file that you are using
to see what is being expected of the rt tasks by this file. You'll need to
look at both shared memory address and parport address as well as the type
of machines defined.

If you don't get the frank zappa message, you do not have a good rtlinux
kernel. If rt is bad, you'll need to make sure that you have your linux cd
in the machine and re-run Tim's script.

BTW shaken computer syndrome is not all bad. One customer used a cnc mill
for five years after I put a big black sharpie X on the top of computer
rack and told him to hit it there when the machine wouldn't come back to
life on Monday mornings.
