Dan,
I believe 20 gauge on short cables would be a minimum. The connectors I
use are microphone connectors. Available in 2, 4, 8 pin configurations.
I use the 4 pin which has large pins. There is also a chassis mount to
match these. I like em.
Radioshack.com carries them.
