John,
First off the motor will be 4 pole 1425 rpm. It gets the top speed
from gearing up. Yes the spindle motor WILL be special on the Beaver.
The speed change on this model Beaver is by expanding pullies like
the variable speed Bridgy head and as such has a longer, special
shaft to carry the sheaves.
I'll bet you that there is nothing wrong with the motor. They are a
very beefy unit. You can air drop these on Bosnia and they'll still
run OK.
You can get a new motor to fit, it will just take a bit of working.

From the prices you have mentioned on motors these look like Machine
Mart prices.
Steer clear of this rubbish it's absolute crap. In fact it's worse
than crap.
General rule of thumb for a motor is 750 watts = 1 Hp
That doesn't take into account efficency so if you have a one bar
electric fire taking 750 watts, in theory that's 1 Hp but nothing's
going round.
Do you get the point?

Decent starters cost around 45 quid. Half for the contactor and half
for the thermal.
If you want to go either way contact me off list.
I'm sure I've still got a 3HP brand spanky new Brooks Crompton motor
somewhere kicking around you can have cheaper than a Ying Tong
Diddlie I Poe model. Probably with a starter unit built in. Can't
remember how they were built.
If not I've got a 3 Hp invertor somewhere for the same price.
I just need to dig around for a bit, The filing system isn't 100%

Leave the table alone. A few dings and cuts won't affect it at all.
If it's looks you are worried about take a look in the file section
and see if my picture on a mill tray for mounting vises is still
there. This covers a mutitude of sins and is effective to boot.

As regards a coolant system, the base of the Beaver is the tank.
There should be a pump behind the rear cover but it will be 3 phase.
Just take it out, chuck it at next doors cat and fit a single phase
25 quid pond pump. Ipso Facto job done, sorted.

BTY it's THREE phase, no bugger knows what you are talking about here
when you mention tri phase.

JS.
