Hello,
I have found a few triple phase 415V static converters, they're about
£250 - 300 for the HP range I'm looking at. I have found some 2 pole single
phase motors for much less with RPM's of 3000 and 1500 on 4 pole. This is
for the Beaver VBRP, I don't have triple phase and the guy's not sure if the
motors even work. I'm wondering if it's worth buying a static converter if
they do or if I'd be better just saving myself some money and getting single
phase. I know triple phase runs smoother but is twice the cost really worth
it? Especially after the beating the motors will have taken over the years.
The spindle motor won't be specifically made only for the Beaver will
it? It appears to be face plate mounted, I should be able to replace it with
another standard Nema sized motor shouldn't I? There are some pictures in
the Photo's section. A few more things, I could wire brush the table back to
a nice clean finish but would it be acceptable to bring the table back into
good backlash settings and then pass a fly cutter over the table to skim a
small layer off and level the table again? Or would that be too risky and
fill the table with unevenities? I bet you're going to say it wouldn't reach
to the end bit of the table. : )
I have £842.90 in my bank account - £450 for the mill = £392.90
£392.90 - £23.44 for a starter - £88.07 2hp 2 pole 3000rpm motor = £281.39
for simple tooling and cosmetic bits, possibly a cheap coolant system from
an Enco like joint
Thanks for the help,
John He.
