Hi Nelson,
Yes! I have wanted to do just that! Look for DLG and DEM files of the
area you are interested in. DEM's might be easier, elevation over a X,
Y grid. I like the increased contour information in the DLG's, but they
are harder to work with.

There are free DLG viewers available.
I've been able to generate simple DXF files (BIG FILES), but I have not
been able to get the data into reasonable order, so that it can be cut.
I did some recent work with Gerber files and I think using a L-R
recursive decent of a binary tree might be the answer.
Depending on the scale you select, those buildings are going to be quite
small! 1:100K DLG, 1:24K DLG will be of interest.
I'd like to explore this further.
