Hi Colin, Iain,

I just got the MaxNC probe, at about $225 USD. Something like this
might fit your/our needs! From the outside, I see a little PCB (1"
dia), with three adjustable contact screws, and looking in the 3/8" hole
in the PCB, another PCB that is connected to the probe. There is spring
tension on the moveable inside PCB disk. This might give someone some
ideas! There are also three screws holding it together, so I might have
to take a look inside!

The probe fits into my Sherline 1/4" collet, where I'm running it now.
Future plans are to run it in a homemade 12" x 12" x 3" (metal) router
I'm working on.

I even "uncovered" an old Sears "milling table attachment" (office
cleaning), which with the addition of a few motors, could be used for
light duty routing, or digitizing. I'd mount the Z axis on a "bridge"
over the table.
