Regular gears are involute, the ring and pinion of a car rear end are I think
the Hypoide. For the Involute if done properly you can make 5 cuts per tooth
with a cutter shape of a rack, Do one at the center, and two one pitch apart
higher and same lower, they will modify the tooth to a fairly close involute
for smaller gear sizes.
