I see one common theme among the messages on this group and it is sort of
like the snip below. IS everyone on this list trying to build the absolute
cheapest machine they can get?? I am missing something but if you want good
stuff everything I see asked for is available retail, so the motive here is
to get it done for free or cheap or surplus, is that the hobby, building CNC
machine that work flawlessly, have ultimate accuracy and so all that out of
junk yard scrap or surplus used parts.?? Than is okay and this s a non
judgmental question but I find it amazing that those expectations are
publicized and people actually admit that they are cheap, want the best and
al for free or nest to nothing. Then I see responses to people who offer a
quality product and expect and deserve to paid for it as derogative or
attacks.
It may be possible to stumble across exactly what you need at a better than
retail price but to set the criteria up and engineer your equipment from a
budget of next to nothing is not very realistic and nt far to the vendors
who are trying to accommodate the mixed signals. I myself will pay whatever
it cost, my goals are different. I want ease of use, reliability, accuracy
and technical support and I wil pay as much as that costs, if MASTERCAM is
the only way to get there then I wil pay that $4000.00 price. but you mostly
all have way more time on your hands than I do, if you measure the effort
you spent in saving a few bucks against the actual time you were able to
spend producing parts your parts are more expensive than you think, because
you trick yourselves into thinking the research time invested in free part
cost you nothing. Just for fun keep a time sheet of you computer time/ebay
time and pay yourself $12.00 an hour. when you get done in one week and
still have not found what you need or have to spend another 20 hours,
soldering/modifying the surplus parts to meet the need and the results are
lees than the factory version, you aid more than buying the off the shelf
model. I think that is the answer, the hobby here is to spend hobby time
doing it for free, not necessarily doing it cost effective or right. Please
no flames, just answer the questions honestly. Johnno
