you do. Here is the description on the website:
"This list is for discussion of CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO. This list is aimed at
the construction and use of this equipment in a Home Shop Machinist
environment. It is not moderated, but I would hope that the discussion
will consist of Links, sources, progress reports, and things of this
nature, on the above subjects. It not aimed at the commercial
professional systems, and there users. This list is a direct result of
the discussions on the above subject at NAMES, 1999."
As you will note it is aimed at the home shop, not the commercial
areana. This tends to dictate that money is often more precious than
time and that the creation of the machine may be the goal, not the
ultimate production of parts. You will also find that there are quite a
number of retired folks on the list and that dictates a different
approach than would be appropriate for a profit oriented firm.
Even within the home hobby contingent you will find a range of
interests, goals, and financing. I personally am more into the
technology and while I want to have a working machine it is not for any
specific production, but to suit any whim I may have. I don't have
unlimited funds so I frequently search surplus and E-bay to get as much
for my money as possible. OTOH, I spend a lot on this hobby. Probably
have spend $10000 or so in the last year. That probably puts me toward
the top end of what is spent by the average hobbiest.
Just so you know, we enjoy having the professionals that are on the
list. So while the list is intended for home shop people there is a good
amount of interaction on the list. We just want to make sure that the
intent of the list is to enable the home hobbyist.
