Carl.

C and H Sales ( http://www.candhsales@... )
has a 1 " shaft 1:1 bevel gearbox in their catalog for $99.
It is rated for 12 hp max. The backlash is not given.

I used my own low backlash (7 arc minutes) spiral bevel gearboxes with a
jackshaft on the last machine. I was trying to save an axis.. I only had 3
on my hardware at the time. I had hoped to save the cost of an extra $800
servo and $300 amp as well.

It works great and is very robust but the bearings and gears
cost about $400 and a couple weeks of shop time. So they ended up being
pretty expensive! Or looking at it another
way I got a lousy equivalent of $18 per hour of shop time
doing a lot of precision grinding and turning. Oops!
