I'm new to the list so bear with me when I may ask dumb questions.
I am looking into building a cnc router for a friend of mine to use in
his high school manufacturing tech class (big name for an all purpose
shop). This is almost a no budget project being built with available
materials and stuff I can get from people I know.
I have looked at several on the net and decided to draw up my own
plans to build it. I won't have a final plan until I see what I have to
work with. I am planning to use either a rotozip or a small trim router the
same size. I'm looking to make it about 2x2 or 2x3 depending on what I
scrounge up.
My questions are in general what strength motors should I be looking
for and where can I get plans to build a controller that will supply
adequate power to them.
I have been doing a lot of looking on the net and searching the
archives of this list and have come up with lots of valuable info.
Geckos or anything similar are not an option. I don't have a problem
building any of it but a pre etched board and schematics would be nice if
not too expensive.
After this project I would like to build a similar machine but larger
and using a 3/4hp or so router.
Any tips thoughts related web pages are greatly appreciated. I'd
have to say that the motors and controllers are the main things I need help
on. I'm just not familiar on how much power it takes to move the router
around and keep it from loosing steps.
Thanks
