step and direction software

hello, i am looking for software to run a simple 2 axis gantry system
with simple on off tool control, similar to a simple 2 axis plasma
cutter. i have checked out ability systems indexer lpt and master 5,
however these two seem to be overkill for my app. Any suggestions on
this to keep it simple. basically just need hpgl import, set start
coordinates and cut til done, emergency stop, etc.
