Software Tooks, was "DOS Install"

Folks:
One tool I've been using extensively over the past few years is "Take
Command" from JP Software. It's a command line interface built especially
for Windows, Windows 95/98, and Windows NT. It provides all of the "goodies"
associated with DOS's Command.COM interface, plus several others such as an
extended batch language. It also provides a toolbar with a set of
programmable buttons that you can fashion into a fancy menu system. For me,
it's made windows usable. Of course, your mileage may vary.
If you're interested, the URL is www.jpsoft.com
One other tool I've been using on my Windows 3.1 notebook is Calmira. This
is a tool that presents an "Explorer" type of interface for the Windows 3.1
environment. My reason for using this tool is that it presents a fairly
uniform interface with the Windows 95/98 Explorer. This one is a freebie and
comes with source code written in Borland's Delphi.
The URL for this one is www.calmira.org
I've also noticed on Sherline's web site, that they are offering a version
of VectorCAD 32 with each Sherline lathe and mill packaged after Nov.7. No
mention if this is the CAD only version, or if this one can generate
G-Codes.

| copy c:\progra~1\netsca~1\users\yourname\mydocu~1\cnc.zip
|
| All this ~1 stuff is because DOS sees only the first 8 letters of long
| filenames, so Win95 and later make pseudonames for these files
| by taking the first 6 letters and adding ~1, ~2 etc. to keep them
| separate. Instead of doing this, you would find it a lot easier
| to copy the file with windows explorer. if you have an unzip utility
| that runs under windows, you can do the unzip-ing with that, too.
| If not, you will need to download pkzip or a similar package.
|
| Unzip the file with something like
|
| pkunzip cnc.zip
|

| > unzip in dos mode
|
| You don't have to do the unzip in DOS mode, either. Just so that
| the uncompressed files are in the directory. Then you can go
| to DOS mode and run it.
