If you want to try filling the "voids" before doing the final step, I can
recommend a couple of ways.

First a tip from firearms/knife engravers: Fill a small plastic bag with
auto body putty. Shove this into the cavity. After it sets, do you
machining. Clean up is a matter of chipping out what's left when you done.

Second a tip from gunsmiths: Use a very low melting point alloy like
Cerrosafe or lead to fill the cavity. After machining, just melt the alloy
and save it for reuse.

After reading the other post regarding how non-critical most of the holes
are, and machining for weight reduction, I'd say the large radii are for
both strength and to reduce stress fractures that would build up in the
corners if they were machined square.
