Bill,
On this subject, I'd like to do the same, and I have the
'prerequisites' as listed below; which model am I looking for on the
USDigital website, and how will I interface that with EMC for example?

You can get an encoder from USDigital that will probably screw right
up to your motor if you have a shaft sticking out the back and there are
some threaded holes on the plate to mount it to. That's what I did and
the
holes were allready there. Prices are reasonable (about $50.00 each)
get the little centering tool they sell for about $10.00 and it goes on
easy. You will need the dimensions of the shaft to get the right disk.
