If you're comfortable getting the hard drive out of the laptop I saw
an excellent way to accomplish hooking the drive up to your desktop
yesterday on the cable show techtv (www.techtv.com).

They were talking about how to upgrade the hard drives in laptop and
how to transfer your data off the old disk and unto the new one. The
guy doing the demo used a cheap adapter to hook the laptop drive up
to a standard ide cable. He said he's seen the adapter's for as much
as $30.00 but the one he was using was $9.00. He didn't say where he
got his but a little searching ought to turn up something.
