Hi,

Well, since our EMC gurus seem to be off for the holidays, I hunkered
down and dug through the mountains of Linux info on the Web and found
a solution to the installation problem I had.

Because my parallel port cd-rom is not bootable, I needed a device
driver for Linux to be able to recognize it to allow it to use it for
installation. Thankfully Linux already comes with this driver, but
you need to load it first. Here's what I did (in case anyone else
wants to do the same):

1. created a supplementary driver disk using rawrite (in the dosutils
dir) to install paride.img onto a floppy.

2. created a boot disk from boot.img (same way)

3. when I booted the BDI install from the boot floppy, I used the add
device button, inserted the supplemental floppy (with the paride
driver).

4. when asked for a cd-rom, I selected "0ther CD-rom" and picked the
parallel port IDE driver (the one I just added).

From there, the installation went as per normal EMC BDI install.

Everything now works (on the computer anyway), so I just need to
mount the steppers on the machine and I'm all set.

Gary
