concerning usb, it depends if you are talking about usb 1.0
or usb 2.0. usb 1.0 probably would not work since there is
nothing in the usb 1.0 specification that guarantees that
an event will happen every required time period. i am not
familar enough with usb 2.0 to know if anything changed that
would allow it to be used.
firewire is a different story. there are at least two companies
that offer cnc controllers and management configurations that
use firewire. if i ever have the time i would like to look
into using firewire instead of the parallel port.
